The Sacred Flow of Reiki: Energy Exchange, Healing & Respect

🌅

Reiki was never created as a transaction — it was a gift. When Mikao Usui received Reiki on the mountain, it came through light, devotion, and surrender. Yet even in his time, he struggled with how the energy was treated — how some received it without gratitude or respect. That challenge remains today, and I have lived it too many times .

🌅

Over years of teaching and sharing Reiki, I have witnessed how easily this sacred energy can be misunderstood, taken for granted, or treated as something to “buy” and “return.” But Reiki does not work that way. Once an attunement is given, once energy has flowed between teacher and student, the connection is made. It cannot be undone, returned, or refunded. It becomes a living part of you — a responsibility, a gift, and a promise to honour the energy you have received .

🌅

Reiki is intelligent. It flows where it is needed most — not always where we expect. When you open yourself to Reiki, it may bring to the surface emotions, memories, or energetic patterns from this life or even from other lifetimes that are ready to be healed. This process can sometimes feel uncomfortable, even overwhelming. This is not the fault of Reiki, nor of the teacher. It is the work of the light gently revealing what must be released and transformed.

🌅

Many people experience what is known as a “healing crisis” — a temporary physical, emotional, or energetic reaction as old energy leaves the system. This is a sacred part of the healing journey. Reiki asks us to trust, to breathe, and to allow. It invites us to look within, to face what has been hidden, and to walk through the discomfort toward peace and integration.

🌅

As your teacher and guide, I hold space for you throughout that process and offer a range of modalities and support to help you navigate what arises. But the responsibility for your healing journey remains your own. It is your sacred work — your partnership with Spirit. In no way should Reiki or I be blamed for what you feel, for all healing unfolds according to divine timing and purpose.

🌅

For this reason, my strong no-refund policy  is not about money — it is about respect . Respect for Reiki itself, for the lineage that flows through us, and for the time, preparation, and spiritual energy that each attunement requires. When you step forward to receive Reiki training or healing, you are entering into a sacred agreement — one built on trust, presence, and gratitude. I hold that space with the utmost integrity and expect the same in return.

🌅

I have also learned that even when I offer Reiki, in the spirit of kindness, the energies must still be met with respect. There have been times when I’ve offered Reiki sessions through what I call “sweat equity” — an energy exchange in which a person gives their time, skills, or creativity in return for healing. It is a beautiful idea in essence, but sadly, it has not often been honoured in practice, I've repeatedly felt the frustration Mikao Usui must have endured during his bringing of Reiki forward into the world .

One man, a carpenter, could not afford his sessions, so I invited him to build two wooden plant pots for my front garden, using recycled materials. He made one, but with indoor wood that quickly fell apart in the weather — and never returned to make the other, though he continued to ask for more Reiki. Another man, a roofer, used my own roof to carry out work for a neighbour and promised to replace the lead he had removed in exchange for healing sessions. He never did. . .And  then yet another arrived for Reiki claiming he could not afford to pay  but would garden for me instead — yet came dressed in brand-new clothes, £50 shoes showing the label underneath, and after the session, asked if I would go on a date with him. It became clear he could afford his healing, but not the self-respect or integrity to honour a true exchange.

Each of these experiences taught me something profound. Reiki is not a favour, a commodity, or something to be bartered without sincerity. It is a spiritual partnership that requires sincerity, honesty, and heart. When that balance is broken, the energy cannot flow freely. These moments taught me that compassion must be guided by boundaries, and that even the most generous heart must stand in truth. Because Reiki moves only in truth — it flows where respect and readiness meet.

So I no longer offer sweat equity or unpaid energy exchanges. I have learned that the spiritual value of Reiki cannot be measured in favours or promises. The true exchange happens in the heart — through commitment, gratitude, and readiness to receive with integrity.

Reiki is a divine gift. It deserves to be met with open hearts, clear intention, and full respect. And I will continue to honour it — and to protect the purity of how it is shared — in every way I can.

🌅May all who walk this path do so in humility, grace, and truth.

May Reiki guide your heart, heal your wounds, and awaken your light — always in harmony with the highest good.
